The Heartland Wellbeing Institute  was created from the desire and intention to offer experiences and opportunities that support wellbeing. To make the time to remember who we are, why we are here and what we want to do about it.  To offer practical and simple strategies to engage in what is important to you, what brings you joy and how to incorporate these activities into your daily life.

Is it a walk in nature, listening to the wind swirl through leaves of a tree or learning something new?  Do you enjoy writing, reading, yoga, meditation - and want a community to have creative conversations and experiences?

How to be mindful, be present, stay in this moment.  Which of course is gone as soon as I typed those words!
Create a practice of mindfulness... try a strategy learned at a workshop by Deepak Chopra -  it is S.T.O.P.:

S – Stop what you are doing – literally stop!
T – Take a few deep breaths until you feel relaxed
O – Observe what is going on AND your body's reaction
P – Proceed with awareness and compassion

Give it a try - simply taking the deep breaths will give you  a new perspective of the present moment.

Go to the Resources and Websites to see Deepak explain this strategy on a video.

July Pondering

The last couple months I have contemplated mindfulness.  Jon Kabat-Zinn defines as “Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally, - in the service of self-understanding and wisdom.”
That is a lot to take in and think about.  So how do I do this?  What type of practice can I integrate into my life to truly make a difference?
